New Moon Observation on May 31, 2022

Today, MAY 31 is the 29th day of the 2nd month and it is the first day the first sliver of the new moon could possibly be visible to the naked eye in Israel. Therefore, observers in Israel will be looking for the Renewed Moon of the 3rd month around sunset (7:39pm IDT / 12:39pm EDT). If the new moon is sighted today in Israel, then new moon day will be from sunset MAY 31 to sunset JUN 1. If the renewed moon is not sighted today in Israel, then new moon day will be from sunset JUN 1 to sunset JUN 2.

The Renewed Moon of the 3rd month (sivan) is “likely” to appear over the western horizon of Jerusalem between 7:30pm and 8:42pm (IDT) / 12:30pm and 1:42pm (EDT) on TUE MAY 31, 2022. The moon should not be difficult to see with 1.30 (1.52)% Illumination and 69 min lag time (time interval between sunset and moon set).
